The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2023 took place on July 4th in Coney Island, New York. Joey Chestnut, also known as "Jaws," emerged as the champion for the 16th time. Despite falling short of his record-setting tally of 76 hot dogs, Chestnut consumed an impressive 62 hot dogs to secure the victory. Geoffrey Esper finished in second place with 49 hot dogs, narrowly holding off James Web. 


In the women's competition, Miki Sudo successfully defended her title, out-eating the competition. Mayoi Ebihara had a strong second-place showing in her first Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest appearance. Sudo's reign as the women's champion seems to have no end in sight.


Joey Chestnut has established himself as a dominant force in the world of competitive eating. He has won the men's championship 15 times, with his only loss occurring in 2015 to Matt Stonie. Chestnut holds the record for the most hot dogs eaten in the contest, consuming an astounding 76 hot dogs in 2021. While his total dipped to 63 in 2022, he still emerged as the champion. 


The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is a highly anticipated event that draws thousands of spectators each year. Participants have 10 minutes to eat as many Nathan's Famous hot dogs as they can. The event is managed by Major League Eating (MLE), and participants must be under contract with MLE to compete.
